Alcoa shuts Kentucky castings plant, cuts 158 jobs

NEW YORK, May 19 (Reuters) - Alcoa Inc. on Thursday said it would shut its Hawesville, Kentucky, automotive castings plant by the end of the year, citing excess capacity.

The move will affect 158 people and result in costs of $45 to $50 million pre-tax, the majority of which will be recorded as impairment charges in the second quarter, it said.
