Animal trainer Roy Horn's condition improves

LOS ANGELES, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Animal trainer and magician Roy Horn is recovering from the tiger attack he suffered during a performance early this month and no longer in critical condition, his partner said in a statement on Thursday.

Horn -- who co-stars with Siegfried Fischbacher as "Siegfried & Roy" -- was moved to the University of California, Los Angeles facility from University Medical Center in Las Vegas on Oct. 28.

"Roy's condition -- as a result of his accident on Oct. 3 -- is serious, but his vital signs are stable," UCLA said in a statement. Horn had been in critical condition during his tenure in the Las Vegas hospital.

Horn's magician partner, Fischbacher, thanked fans for support.

"Roy is now making the transition from survival to recovery," he said. "While we are all aware that the road ahead is long, all of us in the Siegfried & Roy family are encouraged by Roy's remarkable demonstration of will, courage, and faith."

The trainer was attacked by a male white tiger during a performance on the his 59th birthday. The cat grabbed Horn by the neck and dragged him off stage, nearly killing him.

The Mirage hotel, owned by MGM Mirage , has closed the show.

The hospital did not give details of Horn's condition. Friends and family have said it was not clear how far he would recover physically from the attack.
