Honda Cutting North American Production Again

Honda of America Mfg. Inc. says it will trim 119,000 units from its current North American production schedule, running from now until March 31, the end of Honda Motor Co. Ltd.’s fiscal year.

Honda spokesman Ed Miller says the auto maker will slice 18,000 units from the two lines at Honda’s Lincoln, AL, plant; 58,000 units from its three lines in Ohio; 37,000 units at its two plants in Alliston, ON, Canada; and 6,000 units from its new Greensburg, IN, line, which is building the Civic compact car.

Honda already said it would cut 56,000 units of planned vehicle builds from the period. With the additional cuts, the auto maker loses 175,000 total vehicles from its 1.468 million-unit plan.

However, Miller says the auto maker will have its fourth-highest year of North American production ever in a fiscal year, with 1.293 million units built from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2009.

Miller says employment at the plants is not affected.
