Arctic Cat to recall 45,000 all-terrain vehicles

WASHINGTON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Arctic Cat Inc. will recall 45,000 all-terrain vehicles because ball joints on the front suspension could fail, leading the four-wheel vehicles to lose control, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Tuesday.

The company has received 73 reports of broken front suspensions, and 10 riders were injured as a result, including a shoulder rotator cuff injury as well as bumps and bruises, the agency said.

The vehicles to be recalled include 2002 model names: 250, 300, 300 Massey Ferguson, 375, 400, 400i, 500, TBX 500 and 500i, according to the CPSC. The vehicles were sold throughout the United States between June 2001 and June 12, 2002, for between $4,000 and $6,500.

The CPSC urged owners to stop using the vehicles immediately and call Arctic Cat at 1-800-210-5941 to see if their ATV is part of the recall.

Those who registered their ATVs with the company have already been notified by mail about the recall and others can contact their local dealer to schedule a free repair.

Shares of the Thief River Falls, Minnesota, company closed up 20 cents to $16.01 on Nasdaq on Monday.
