Colombia May retail sales up 4.19 percent yr/yr

BOGOTA, Colombia, July 23 (Reuters) - Colombian retail sales, excluding fuel, rose by 4.19 percent in May compared to the same month in 2001 due to a better turnover of vehicles and electrical household appliances, the government said on Tuesday.

Between January and May, retail sales, excluding fuel, rose by 2.99 percent against the same period last year.

Sales of vehicles in May rose by 22.91 percent, while sales of electrical household appliances increased 21.69 percent, the National Statistics Department said in a press statement.
