TOKYO, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co , Japan's second-largest auto maker, said on Tuesday it posted a one percent fall in quarterly operating profit even as strong demand in the key U.S. market helped offset a sharp drop in domestic sales.

Operating profit for July-September, the second quarter of the business year, was 151.69 billion yen ($1.4 billion) compared with 153.05 billion yen in the same period last year.

Net profit grew 58 percent to 137.36 billion yen, from 87.18 billion yen last year.

Honda's shares fell 1.8 percent during the quarter, underperforming a six percent rise in the Tokyo stock market's transport sector index and a 29 percent jump on the main board . ($1=108.43 yen)
