CORRECTED-French car market seen up one percent in 2004

In PARIS story headlined "French car market seen up one percent in 2004", please replace third and fourth paragraphs with new third paragraph showing sales in the U.S. rising to 8.2 million, instead of in European Union. (corrects to show European sales stable, not rising).

A corrected version follows:

PARIS, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Sales of new cars in France will rise around one percent next year after plunging sharply in 2003 amid shaky consumer morale in Europe's worst-hit major auto market, a car market research group said on Wednesday. The Observatoire de l'Automobile forecast sales of new cars in France would rise to 2.02 million units in 2004 compared to two million this year when sales fell an estimated 6.7 percent.

The group said sales in Europe would remain stable at around 14 million, while sales in the United States should rise to 8.2 million units in 2004 from 8.1 million in 2003.
