EU okays merger of nine VW/Audi parts distributors

BRUSSELS, July 29 (Reuters) - The European Commission on Tuesday approved a merger of nine regional distribution centres in Germany that deal with wholesale parts for Volkswagen and Audi autos, saying the deal did not raise any competition concerns.

The Commission said in a statement that VW would acquire sole control of seven of the nine centres that deal with original VW and Audi spare parts and accessories on the wholesale level.

"Together with the two distibution centres which are already under sole control of Volkswagen, all nine distribution centres will be merged in to a single distribution company for original spare parts and accessories," the statement said.

It added that the merger will not lead to important changes as VW already holds shares of more than 25 percent and a strategic veto right in all of the distribution centres.
