BRUSSELS, Dec 23 (Reuters) - The European Commission said on Monday it had decided to carry out an in-depth investigation into a proposed joint venture between DaimlerChrysler and Deutsche Telekom .
The venture between the German auto and telecommunications giants would operate a toll collecting system for heavy lorries on German motor ways.
"After a preliminary review the Commission considers that the toll collecting system could become a predominant platform for the provision of telematics services for the transport and logistics sector," the EU executive said in a statement.
"Therefore the Commission at this stage has serious doubts whether the transaction can be approved in its present form," it added.
In-depth probes by the Commission take four months.
