Ex-Mitsubishi manager to head Daimler trucks-paper

FRANKFURT, June 26 (Reuters) - German-American carmaker DaimlerChrysler will appoint former Mitsubishi Motors manager Ulrich Walker as head of its trucks unit as part of a sweeping management revamp, a newspaper reported.

Citing company sources, Germany's Welt am Sonntag Sunday newspaper said Walker would succeed Eckhard Cordes early next year, and that Cordes would become head of the company's luxury Mercedes Car Group.

Walker is a former top executive at struggling Mitsubishi Motors, in which DaimlerChrysler has a 37-percent stake.

German media have suggested that Cordes, who has won praise for turning around the loss-making trucks division, is the only candidate in the running to succeed outgoing Mercedes chief Juergen Hubbert.

But a source close to DaimlerChrysler told Reuters this week that Chrysler chief Dieter Zetsche was also a strong candidate.

DaimlerChrysler supervisory board sources say the board will discuss the personnel changes on July 28.
