FACTBOX-Airlines cancel hundreds of flights due to outage

DALLAS, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Airlines canceled or plan to cancel at least 373 flights on Friday due to the broad power outage in the northeastern United States and Canada, and warned that number could grow due to disrupted airport operations.

Airlines said most of their cancellations came from flights serving New York's John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports and airports in Toronto, Detroit and Cleveland were also affected. Airlines said power has been restored at Cleveland's airport and they are slowly resuming operations there.

ANNOUNCED FRIDAY CANCELLATIONS

-- American Airlines said it canceled 183 flights on Friday. The world's largest carrier canceled 141 flights on Thursday.

-- Delta Air Lines said it expected to cancel 91 flights on Friday from JFK, LaGuardia and Detroit.

-- U.S. Airways announced 39 flights would be canceled, mostly flights out of Detroit and LaGuardia.

-- JetBlue Airways , whose main operation is from JFK airport, said it expected to cancel 20 flights. The carrier canceled two flights on Thursday.

-- United Airlines said it has canceled 40 flights on Friday. It canceled 19 on Thursday.

-- Air Canada suspended flights on Friday after power failed at its operation control center. Canada's largest airline said the new shutdown would cause delays and cancellations throughout its entire worldwide network.

AIRLINES YET TO ANNOUNCE FRIDAY CANCELLATIONS

-- Northwest Airlines said it canceled 216 flights on Thursday, mostly into and out of its Detroit hub. It expects to run a limited schedule from Detroit on Friday.

-- Continental Airlines , said it expected to operate delayed flights to Cleveland and might cancel some smaller commuter flights.

-- Southwest Airlines said it is experiencing disruptions in Detroit. It canceled 30 flights on Thursday.
