Fiat CEO says July car sales going well

ROME, July 23 (Reuters) - Fiat car sales are going well this month and the company's second quarter performance at an operating level improved, Fiat CEO Giuseppe Morchio said on Wednesday.

"July sales are progressing in a positive fashion," Morchio told reporters.

"I can confirm that the second quarter performance at an operating level was decidely better compared with the same period last year and the first (quarter) of this year."

Fiat's car sales in Italy fell 11 percent in the first half of the year and in June its share of its key home market hit a historic low of 27 percent. Fiat is betting three new models due out in the autumn will boost sales.
