BRUNSWICK, Germany, Nov 15 (Reuters) - The former head of Volkswagen's powerful works council denied on Thursday charges that he lobbied Europe's biggest carmaker for illicit payoffs, but admitted he had made "big mistakes".
"I did not put Mr Hartz up to paying me special bonuses," Klaus Volkert told a German court as his trial on 48 counts of incitement to breach of trust got under way.
