Audi and Toyota will show driverless car technology at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, and others, including non-automotive types such as Google, are experimenting with the technology. What’s the future for the driverless car? Who will get there first, the auto industry or Silicon Valley?

This is something that hasn't been thought out. Driving an automobile is incredibly complicated; snow, ice, objects in road, road construction, etc., etc. The writers who proclaim this as a technology of the near, or distant future, are dreaming.
