Gemstar, DirecTV sign licensing pact

Newswire

LOS ANGELES, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Television programming guide provider Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. and satellite broadcaster DirecTV on Tuesday said they signed a licensing deal to use Gemstar's technology in DirecTV's on-screen guides.

Gemstar said it will license its technology directly to DirecTV for use in its own guides or guides designed by its vendors. Gemstar said it will receive its fees from DirecTV, rather from the broadcaster's set-top box suppliers.
