Italdesign Presents Show Car at Geneva

The Italdesign DaVinci is ready for production development, according to the company that calls its show car “The Future.”

GENEVA – Design ideas are for sale at the Italdesign exhibit here at the 2019 Geneva auto show.

With parent Volkswagen Group allowing the Italian design and engineering shop to seek new patrons, Moncalieri-based Italdesign is looking for new commissions outside the reshuffled VW world.

Italdesign needs to ensure a work flow taking full advantage of the company’s advanced facilities and more than 1,000 specialists capable of delivering everything needed to create a car body, from white sheet to final design through production engineering, testing and validation. The studio has the potential to construct some 500 development prototypes per year.

This year, Italdesign is presenting the DaVinci, a show car not based on any specific brand or model and instead carrying its own brand image. The design work is ready to fit on any existing suitable frame.

The Italdesign DaVinci is ready for production development, according to the company that calls its show car “The Future” rather than a futuristic show of fantasy, with the only concession being the large gull-wing doors typical of a show car with a luxury interior.

Underneath the exotic skin, Italdesign has provided the structure for an all-electric vehicle. The battery pack can be large but must be flat to keep the overall length at 196.1 ins. (4,981 mm) and height at 83.6 ins. (2,124 mm).
