BERLIN, June 5 (Reuters) - The German government is considering increasing gasoline tax in its bid to bring Germany's budget deficit below three percent of gross domestic product in 2004, a German newspaper reported on Thursday.

Financial daily Handelsblatt said Finance Minister Hans Eichel was unlikely to agree with cabinet colleagues planned cost cuts of 15 billion euros and was looking for ways to make up for a shortfall in revenue.
