German gov't, opposition reach low-pay sector deal

BERLIN, Dec 17 (Reuters) - The German government formally reached a deal with the opposition on Tuesday on labor market reform in the low-pay sector which could cost the government over 1 billion euros in lost tax and social security revenues.

The conservatives, who have a majority in the Bundesrat upper house, blocked the bill's passage last month, but Tuesday's deal means it should successfully pass a second reading due on Friday.
