German heavy truck registrations plunge in July

FRANKFURT, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Registrations in Germany of new trucks weighing more than 16 tonnes fell by a quarter in July but truckmakers' order books remained full, the VDA automotive industry association said on Friday.

Heavy truck registrations fell to 3,390 units in July as sales dried up after a buying frenzy sparked earlier in the year by rules requiring digital tachographs in truck cabs as of May 1. Registrations in the first seven months were up 18 percent.
