German machinery makers play down strong euro

FRANKFURT, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Germany's export-dependent machinery sector is not worried at this stage about the impact of the strong euro or fallout from the U.S. mortgage crisis, the head of the VDMA industry association said on Monday.

The dollar's weakness against the euro is weighing on machinery makers' profits and costing them some orders, VDMA President Manfred Wittenstein told reporters.
