BERLIN, April 11 (Reuters) - Germany's opposition-controlled upper house of parliament adopted on Friday a slimmed down compromise package of tax increases a month after blocking government plans to raise some 40 different taxes. The compromise adopted on Friday, which were approved earlier in the day by the lower house of parliament, damages Finance Minister Hans Eichel's plans to bring German public finances back into line with European Union rules.
