Germany denies road toll contract to be cancelled

BERLIN, Nov 14 (Reuters) - The German government and Toll Collect denied a report on Friday that the government planned to cancel its contract with the consortium to build and operate a truck toll scheme after a series of problems and delays.

Newspaper Passauer Neue Presse said on Friday the government was planning to cancel its contract with the consortium, made up of Deutsche Telekom , DaimlerChrysler and France's Cofiroute.

"The report is false," a transport ministry spokesman said.

Germany was to have introduced a 12.4 eurocent charge for trucks using its highway network this year, but the scheme has been postponed twice due to a string of technical problems.

It is not expected to be up and running until next year, creating a major embarrassment and depriving the government of around 156 million euros ($183.8 million) in revenues a month.
