BERLIN, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Germany's high-tech satellite-based motorway truck toll monitoring system caught 500 fee dodgers on the first day of operation and is working perfectly, Transport Minister Manfred Stolpe said on Sunday.
After 16 months of delays that embarrassed the government and opened multi-billion euro (dollar) holes in its budget, the pioneering system was launched on Saturday, accurately finding the 500 dodgers from the 20,000 trucks that paid their tolls.
