Honda says Chinese JV to raise output capacity

TOKYO, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Japan's Honda Motor Co Ltd said on Wednesday that its Chinese joint venture will raise its annual output capacity to 240,000 units by spring 2004 from 50,000 now.

The joint venture, Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co, will invest an additional 660 million yuan ($79.73 million) for the expansion, the Japanese automaker said.

The expansion will also add 1,000 jobs at the venture to make a total 3,400 by 2004.

The joint venture, which will launch the new "Accord" sedan in China next month, is in the process of raising its capacity to 120,000 units a year by February. ($1=8.277 Yuan)
