India extends policy favouring state firms

NEW DELHI, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The Indian government has decided to extend up to March 31, 2005, a policy that gives preference to state firms in purchase orders from the government, a minister said on Thursday.

Under the purchase preference policy, if a state firm quotes a price within 10 percent of the lowest bid, it can get a government order if it matches that bid.
