India Oct passenger car sales up 24.1 pct yr/yr

NEW DELHI, Nov 14 (Reuters) - India's domestic passenger car sales jumped 24.1 percent in October to 56,232 units, up from 45,325 units in the same month last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said on Friday.

SIAM said in a statement that car sales in April-October, the first seven months of the current fiscal year to March 2004, rose to 375,674 units from 303,555 a year earlier.

Sales of commercial vehicles, or trucks and buses combined, were 22,015 units in the past month, up from 16, 727 in the same month a year earlier. Sales in April-October were 131,703 units against 99,833 a year earlier.

Motorcycle sales jumped 30.3 percent to 438,991 units from 336,883 a year earlier, it added. Sales in April-October were up 14.6 percent to 2,402,725 units.
