Medium- and heavy-duty truck sales in Canada rose 36.1% year-on-year in November, down slightly from October’s 38.5% increase.

All groups with the exception of Class 4 posted sales hikes in the month, according to WardsAutodata.

Class 8 sales saw the biggest jump, 44.6%, on the strength of across-the-board gains.

PACCAR’s Kenworth, with deliveries up 88.8%, was the segment’s growth leader. Volvo Truck’s Mack Truck brand saw sales inch up 9.8% for Class 8’s smallest climb.

Medium-duty sales rose 17.8% in November, led by Class 7’s 42.4% improvement.

PACCAR and Daimler, with each recording gains exceeding 90%, were the strongest performers. Hino was the lone manufacturer in the red, down 13.0%.

But Hino was the big winner in Class 6. The Japanese manufacturer saw its deliveries soar 145.7%, a major contributor to the segment’s 6.4% uptick. International, down 33.5%, was the segment’s sole sales loser.

Class 5 deliveries climbed 32.1%. A 41.3% increase in sales of domestically built models offset an 18.4% decline by imported units.

International’s 605.1% spike on 44 deliveries was Class 5’s largest increase, but Ford remained the segment’s volume leader with 225 sales in November.

PACCAR, with one Class-5 unit sold by its Kenworth brand in the month, posted a 67.9% decline, the sector’s biggest shortfall.

Class 4 sales fell 32.3% as nearly all the group’s brands saw losses, including No.1 Ford, down 45.0% with 75 units.

Through November, sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Canada were pacing 33.6% ahead of like-2010, with 34,720 units compared with year-ago’s 25,988.
