Sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Canada fell 11.2% from year-ago in June. The sector has not registered an increase in any month in 2013.
All groups except Class 5 posted June declines.
Class 8, which slipped 15.2%, saw more than half of its manufacturers lose volume from year-ago. That includes No.2, whose Kenworth arm recorded the month’s biggest drop among all Class-8 brands, down 34.2%.
International’s 33.1% decline was close behind, with Volvo Truck’s namesake brand also down more than 30%.
was the only manufacturer to see growth in the group, with June deliveries up 8.1% on a 22.0% increase for Western Star.
Medium-duty sales fell 2.6%, with Class 7 slipping 9.5%.
was the leading Class 7 gainer, with deliveries rising 107.7%, but higher-volume and Freightliner also posted gains.
sales fell 28.9%, the biggest Class-7 decline, and volume leader International saw deliveries slide 16.3%.
Class 6 fared the worst, down 33.7%, as No.1-seller International’s 40.4% drop and’s 57.9% decline tempered the small volume gains recorded by other manufacturers.
Class 5’s 8.7% improvement was driven by a 43.0% rise indeliveries, as well as ’s 24.6% jump. Freightliner had the biggest percentage reduction, but on just one sale vs. five year-ago.
Hino’s 37.9% decline to 64 units had the biggest impact in the sector, as the Japanese manufacturer is Class 5’s No.3 seller.
Class 4 sales slipped 3.8%, with losses registered byand Fuso, plus weak growth by segment-leading Ford. Also anemic was Hino’s 3.8% gain, Class 4’s biggest jump in June.
Through six months, sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Canada were down 10.6% to 20,386 units.
