Ford Crowd-Sourcing Initiative Nears Milestone

Missouri is the state that has worked the program the most, Ford says, accumulating $1.72 million in school-related funding.

Ford’s 8-year-old school-initiative crowd-funding program, run in partnership with its U.S. dealers, is set to pass a milestone this weekend, topping $25 million.

The program provides high schools with the opportunity to raise money to back athletics, science clubs, plays or other initiatives through collaboration with local Ford dealers.

Under the Drive 4 UR Schools (or D4URS) program, Ford will donate $20 for each individual who test drives a car or truck (up to $6,000) at special events organized by the schools in conjunction with a local dealer, who provides the vehicles.

The automaker says nearly 450 D4URS events will have been run in the March-June period, and it has held more than 6,000 of the special test drives since beginning the program in 2007.

Missouri is the state that has worked the program the most, Ford says, accumulating $1.72 million in funding, followed closely by Michigan ($1.68 million) and Illinois and Texas (both at $1.60 million).
