Ford will invest $80 million in its Kentucky Truck Plant to meet growing demand for F-Series Super Duty trucks.
The move will result in 350 new jobs at the plant in Louisville, as well as pay for facility upgrades and new tooling. Ford says the investment and new jobs are estimated to result in a 15% increase in production capacity, or about 55,000 units. Kentucky Truck currently has a 380,000-unit annual capacity, according to WardsAuto data.
The extra units should help alleviate supply constraints for the Super Duty. At the end of December, Super Duty stock stood at 58 days’ supply, slightly below the 60 days’ considered ideal.
The Kentucky Truck Plant, which began operation in 1913, builds the F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty pickups, as well as the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator fullsize SUVs.
