Ford Leads Way in May as Malaysia Vehicle Sales Jump

Malaysia new-vehicle sales surged 12.7% year-on-year in May to 55,939 units and the Malaysian Automotive Assn. predicts a similar strong performance this month.
The result left the year-to-date total up 5.7% to 274,581 units.
The government’s Bernama news agency quotes the MAA as saying May sales comprised 49,865 passenger vehicles and 6,074 commercial units.

David Westerman, director-Ford Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, says the automaker is seeing terrific consumer response to its expanding vehicle lineup in Malaysia.
The significantly refreshed Fiesta continued to gain traction with its best monthly performance in more than a year as sales surged 154% to 381 units. Ranger deliveries rose 46% to 574 units for a year-to-date total up 39% to 2,939.
After five months, Ford sales were up 18% to 5,213 units.
“We're confident that we'll continue to build on our momentum this year, as we further expand our showroom with the introduction of the all-new EcoSport compact urban SUV and more segment-leading global Ford vehicles,” Westerman says in a statement.
