Ford, Oz Car-Sharing Service Launch Airport Scheme

Ford owners who agree to share their car will receive free parking and a share of the profits if the vehicles are hired to other customers at Carhood locations near airports in three major cities.

Ford Australia is joining airport-parking and car-sharing service Carhood to help customers turn airport parking fees into a profit.

Ford becomes the exclusive automotive partner to Carhood, which – for those willing to share their car – provides free parking and a share of the profits if the vehicles are hired to other customers at airports in three major cities. Participants also get complementary curbside chauffeur service and a car wash.

As part of the deal, Carhood will offer Ford owners benefits including a 35% revenue share – up from 25% – and a 10% discount when renting a Ford vehicle. In turn, the automaker will supply Carhood with an expanded fleet of new Ford vehicles spread among the three Carhood airport-adjacent locations in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

“Ford has one foot in today, delivering our core business, and one foot in tomorrow, anticipating the future needs of customers through our Ford Smart Mobility plan,” Ford Australia CEO and President Graeme Whickman says in a statement.

“This builds on our leading investment in Australia of $300 million in R&D last year alone and is part of our global plan to use innovation to take the company to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and data and analytics,” he says.

Carhood co-founder Steve Johnson says the collaboration with Ford will help the company continue to offer a convenient solution to affordable airport parking.
