GM Holden Bolsters Marketing Team

New marketing director Mark Harland already is working to redefine the Holden brand as it moves from an Australian-based manufacturer to an importer.

GM Holden taps a General Motors veteran to be marketing executive director to help redefine the Australian brand as it switches from a manufacturer to importer.

Mark Harland joins the Holden team from the GM International regional office in Singapore, where he has spent the past two years as marketing and customer experience director.

“As Holden embarks on an exciting and fundamental transformation, Mark will use his vast global experience to lead Holden’s talented Australian marketing team to continue to redefine the brand and better engage with today’s Australia,” the automaker says in a statement.

Harland joined GM in 1997 and has worked in Europe, the U.S. and China, drawing on his extensive knowledge of customer experience, marketing and sales. He helped lead the growth of GM brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet and Opel.

More recently, he has worked closely with Holden’s Australian marketing team in the development of the marque’s new brand strategy.

“Mark’s leadership and experience in various GM roles and markets, combined with his involvement in the development of our brand strategy and plans, means he has an in-depth understanding of where we are taking the iconic Holden brand, to better reflect and connect with today’s Australia,” Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mark Bernhard says in a statement.
