General Motors names the first Thai national to occupy the top manufacturing leadership position at its Thailand operation.

Amnat Saengjan becomes vice president-manufacturing at GM Thailand April 1 and will be responsible for both the GM Thailand and GM Powertrain Thailand plant operations.

Amnat, who joined GM in 1998 as process engineer on the Zafira program, will report directly to Robert Parcell, manufacturing manager-GM International Operations, and indirectly to Marcos Purty, managing director of GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.

Amnat takes over from Michael Perez, who will move to another senior position within GM to be announced later.

GM Southeast Asia President Tim Zimmerman says the Thai manufacturing operations at Rayong are assured a smooth transition with the appointment of Amnat, previously assistant plant manager-vehicle operations at GM Thailand since 2010.

Amnat’s previous roles include shop director, overseeing press and body and general assembly operations from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that he was project-implementation manager for the first Chevrolet Colorado pickup built in Thailand in 2002.
