Hyundai Unveils Verna Concept at Beijing Auto Show

Hyundai unveils its new Verna (Elantra) Concept for the China market at the 2016 Beijing auto show.

Though a concept, the styling is an evolution of the look of the existing Verna: Sleeker but not dramatically different.

The near-production-ready compact sedan features a large hexagonal grille with swept-back projector-equipped headlamps, a sporty front bumper with stainless-steel and chrome inserts and large air intakes. The rear end has notchback lines, wraparound taillamps and a substantial rear bumper.

Hyundai has not revealed what’s under the hood and is withholding drivetrain details until the production vehicle makes its official world debut later this year as the ʼ17 Verna.

The Verna will launch in China and Korea toward the end of the year, followed by its release in India either this year or early in 2017.

The Chinese versions of the Elantra are Beijing Hyundai Motor’s (BHMC) bread-and-butter vehicles, outselling all other Hyundai models.

The 229,011 vehicles sold by BHMC in first-quarter 2016 included 68,808 units of all versions of the Elantra, accounting for 30% of total sales.
