After a month’s respite, Mexico’s light-vehicle daily selling rate resumed an upward tack in April, rising 5.1% from March on volume of 83,386 units, while outpacing like-2012’s 69,760 deliveries by 14.8%.
The Detroit Three auto makers delivered 29,266 LVs in April, up 9.0% from the prior month and 13.3% ahead of year-ago’s 24,787 units.
Asian brands, led by Nissan/Infiniti’s 21,264 units, bested their March performance by 4.9% and prior year’s 28,535 deliveries by 17.3%.
The Europeans sold fewer LVs in April than they did in March, 19,246 vs. 20,004. But because April had one less selling day, they eked out a 0.1% daily-rate gain. Compared with year-ago the April selling pace rose 12.4%.
Despite trailing March by 5.6%, the Volkswagen Jetta remained the No.1 car with April sales of 6,681 units. Chevy Aveo held onto second spot with a 2.7% gain to 5,357 units. The Nissan Tsuru, up 8.2%, remained in third position with 3,966.
Nissan’s pickup took top honors as leader of the light-truck segment with deliveries of 1,965 units, surpassing March by 20.1%. It was followed by the Honda CRV at 1,705 and the new-for-’13 Chevy Trax with 1,330.
Year-to-date LV sales through April reached 330,069 units, up 9.0% from prior-year’s 302,915 deliveries.
