Toyota Investing $200 Million for V-6 Engines

The auto maker already is in the process of an $80 million engine assembly expansion in Alabama, set for an early 2014 completion.

Toyota says its Huntsville, AL, engine plant and Bodine Aluminum casting plants will invest $200 million to increase machining capacity and parts production for V-6 engines in the U.S.

Toyota Motor Engineering and Mfg. North America, the Japanese auto maker’s North American production arm, says the Huntsville plant will make up the majority of the investment, $150 million.

It is the fifth “significant investment” in the engine plant since its opening 10 years ago, Toyota says. Completion of the Alabama machining project is set for July 2015.

Toyota already is in the process of an $80 million engine-assembly expansion in Alabama, set for an early 2014 completion and bringing total engine output to 750,000 units annually.

The Bodine Aluminum investment of $50 million will be shared by two U.S. facilities, in Troy, MO, and Jackson, TN.
