Italy govt approves 1.52 pct Autostrade tariff hike

ROME, Dec 27 (Reuters) - An Italian government committee on Friday approved a plan by the country's biggest toll-road operator Autostrade to raise its tariffs 1.52 percent in 2003. Autostrade has said the increase was needed to kick-start a long-term investment programme. The Benetton family has launched a takeover bid for Autostrade, offering about 8 billion euros for the 70 percent of the company that it does not already own.
