Mini introduces the battery-electric Mini Cooper SE Convertible concept at the recent Mini Takes the States community event.

The concept is not planned for series production but is “a unique specimen that shows how the path to an all-electric premium brand could continue and also electrify classic sporty open-air driving in the future,” Mini says.

The Mini Cooper SE Convertible uses the same drive components as the gasoline-powered 3-door Mini Cooper SE. The 184-hp electric motor enables 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration in 7.7 seconds. Range is 142 miles (230 km) as determined by the WLTP test cycle, Mini says.

The fully electric textile soft top can be opened and closed within 18 seconds, can be activated when driving up to 19 mph (30 km/h) and allows three settings: open, closed or as a sunroof.

The 4-seat BEV was produced in Munich, Germany, and is based on the body of the Mini Cooper S Convertible. Each vehicle is 152 ins. (3,863 mm) long with a wheelbase of 98 ins. (2,495 mm) and cargo capacity of 5.7 cu.-ft. (160 L).

The drive technology comes from the BMW Group's electric mobility competence centers in Dingolfing and Landshut, Germany. The largest market for the Mini Cooper SE is Germany, where almost every third Mini is electrified.
