More than 1,000 new cars hit Beijing streets daily

BEIJING, May 14 (Reuters) - More than 1,000 new cars hit the roads of Beijing each day as traffic congestion in the Chinese capital worsens, state media said on Friday.

Explosive growth in car ownership nationwide has led to a rising number of traffic accidents that claimed more than 100,000 lives across China in 2003. It has a population of 1.3 billion.
