BRUSSELS, April 11 (Reuters) - New rules cutting the number of hours that coach and lorry drivers can be on the road came into force in the European Union on Wednesday, despite protests from coach operators.
The rules, which seek to streamline differing standards throughout the 27-nation bloc, limit drivers to 56 hours on the road per week, down from 74 hours which is the norm in some countries, a European Commission spokesman said.
