Volkswagen AG’s AutoEuropa Automoveis Ltda. unit in Portugal says it will open a rail link to its parts plants in Germany and Poland Oct. 8. AutoEuropa says it hopes the rail link will be more environmentally friendly than traditional transportation methods and lead to the development of more trans-European transport networks. AutoEuropa’s Lisbon-area plant builds Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan and SEAT Alhambra passenger vans, mostly for export.
