A New Zealand coroner’s call to have lap belts found in older vehicles banned and newer-generation 3-point seatbelts made compulsory will not help the safety of older cars, an Autoliv Inc. spokesman says.
The coroner says lap seatbelts can cut a person in half or inflict injuries so horrific it would be preferable not to wear them at all.
