Currently 840,000 sq.-ft. (78,036 sq.-m) of floor space is utilized at the McCormick Place convention center’s South Building. The new configuration will add 369,000 sq.-ft. (34,280 sq.-m) to the adjoining North Building at McCormick.
Possibly playing on the well-publicized need for more floor space at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chicago Automobile Trade Assn. Chairman Casey Wickstrom says, “The beauty of having a facility like McCormick Place at our disposal is that there is nothing that has to be built or changed to accommodate the expansion of this show.
“With the ongoing cooperation of the City of Chicago and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, in concert with our exhibitors and the nation’s most experienced and cost-efficient labor force, Chicago will continue to be the envy of all auto shows worldwide.” (See related story: Detroit Mayor Says $1 Billion Needed to Keep Auto Show)
