VIENNA – Fiat Powertrain Technologies Poland Sp. z o.o. launches production of the new 0.9L 2-cyl. TwinAir gasoline engine at its plant in Bielsko-Biala, Poland.

The new engine will be made in variants ranging from 65 hp to 105 hp.

The first car to receive the new engine will be the Fiat 500, with production of the vehicle to start in a few weeks at Fiat Auto Poland S.A.’s plant in Tychy. Sales of the 500 are to begin in September.

Fiat invested some €300 million ($444 million) in the engine project in Poland. At capacity, the auto maker will be able to produce up to 450,000 engines annually. The operation will employ some 500 workers.
