Fiat SpA will lay off some 550 employees at four Italian sites of its powertrain joint venture with General Motors Corp., a Fiat spokesman tells Ward’s. A spokesman from the JV’s German Opel Powertrain site says in reports the layoffs will not affect production, which has been lowered due to slumping demand for Fiat’s vehicles domestically and overseas.
