Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. CEO Carlos Ghosn announces a new electric car initiative with the state of Tennessee during the dedication of the auto maker's new $100 million headquarters in Franklin, TN.
Ghosn says Nissan and the state are partnering to promote zero-emission vehicles, including pure-electric vehicles, with participation from the Tennessee Valley Authority and other partners.
In May, Ghosn committed the Renault (SA)-Nissan Alliance to be a global leader in ZEVs. Nissan, through its GT 2012 5-year business plan, says it will introduce ZEVs in the U.S. in 2010 and two years later will mass-market ZEVs globally.
Ghosn and Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen signed the agreement July 21 in Nashville. Bredesen agreed to explore strategies in which the state would support deployment of EV infrastructure, including charging stations in public places.
