GM Holden to Cut 600 Jobs; Slow Production

GM Holden Ltd. is cutting 600 jobs and slowing vehicle production at its plant in Adelaide, as the Australian government and the auto maker rush to assure the move does not mean the country’s auto industry is at risk.

Ironically, the job reductions are made public on the same day the industry announces record February sales of 83,740 units, up 8.1% on year-ago.

The Commodore easily was the best-selling model for the month, with 5,544 deliveries.
