General Motors Corp. says it will close down its Oshawa, Ont., Canada, truck plant for five weeks this year to tool up for new versions of its fullsize pickups.

The facility, which will undergo a $227 million transformation for the new models, will be shut down the week of April 3 and the entire month of September to prepare for the new trucks.

Meanwhile, GM says it is lowering prices on its fullsize Suburban SUV for ’07. Base prices for 2-wheel-drive models range from $36,990 for the LS with 5.3L V-8 to $45,655 for the LTZ. GM says the LS model is $2,550 less than a comparably equipped ’06.

Four-wheel-drive models start at $39,790 for the LS and top out at $48,455 for the LTZ. Suburban 3/4-ton models start at $38,165 for the 2WD LS and reach $41,715 for the 4WD LT.

Prices include an $875 destination charge.
