Honda Motor Co. Ltd. will debut a prototype version of the next-generation Honda Pilot midsize cross/utility vehicle at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Honda says a more bold design direction will be seen on the new Pilot that will “emphasize authentic SUV styling” along with interior packaging the auto maker calls “clever.” Honda also says a variety of safety, convenience and fuel-efficient technologies will be seen in the vehicle.

Through November, Pilot sales in the U.S. were down 22.2% to 106,743 units compared with year-ago’s 137,192, Ward's data shows.

Also at Honda’s stand in Detroit will be the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell car shown at November’s Los Angeles auto show, as well as the CR-Z hybrid-electric-vehicle concept shown in October at the Tokyo motor show.
